The Future of Cannabis: Growing from the Ground, Up

March, 17, 2022

Registration: 8:30 AM PDT
Program: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM PDT

Location TBD

An industry with a complicated and checkered history and a largely untapped future, cannabis now has an opportunity to bring economic growth to communities that were targeted during its prohibition. Until November 2012, no states in the country had legalized the recreational use. Ten years and 17 states later, there is a pathway and newfound optimism being paved for industry reform and growth.

While still in its infant stage, the cannabis industry is hitting its stride in popularity and rapid growth across the country. In 2020 sales in America increased by 67% from the previous year and support for legal recreational cannabis hit an all-time high of 68% in favor in the United States in October 2021. The industry is currently valued at approximately $61 billion. As economic impact becomes clearer, questions surrounding policy changes, implementation, community benefit, and growth strategies still remain.

This Future Forum will explore lessons learned from early legalization in states like Colorado and Washington, the unique challenges that face the industry in Southern California, and how reform and progressive economic impact can bring forth a new era for the cannabis industry in the Los Angeles County region.
