Every month the LA Kitchen Speaker Series explores issues surrounding our local and global food systems. We invite industry leaders and advocates to discuss the important topics our food, health and local communities face today.
L.A. Kitchen’s next Speaker Series on April 5th will be on “Food Deserts & Food Justice,” presented by Breanna Hawkins from the Los Angeles Food Policy Council
Breanna will present a critical exploration of the concept of “food deserts”, which is generally recognized as communities with poor access to healthy, quality, and affordable foods. In the presentation, she will highlight the root causes of food injustices related to race and class, facilitate an interactive dialogue on some of the challenges and limitations with measuring “food deserts”, as well as discuss innovative solutions to promoting food justice in underserved communities.
Hosted by L.A. Kitchen. Street parking available. For this event please enter in the back of the building on Ave. 25 where the black sign reads “L.A. Kitchen – Volunteer Entrance.”
